The Everyday Mystic
Flow State on Demand: Accessing Deep Insight Without the Hacks w/ Corissa Saint Laurent
In the modern spiritual marketplace, we are often sold the idea that enlightenment requires a plane ticket to Peru, a strict diet, or a ten-day silent retreat. But in this solo episode, Corissa Saint Laurent dismantles the gatekeeping of the divine to reveal that a true mystical experience is available to you right now, without the props.
Corissa shares her own story of a spontaneous awakening at age 20…a moment where she was dropped into a portal of infinite oneness without any external substances or teachers. Using this as a foundation, she breaks down the Three Must-Dos for a mystical life. (Spoiler: They are actually states of being).
From the physics of the frequency of love to the paradox of surrender, Corissa explains how to move from a life of striving to a life of allowing. She challenges the listener to stop looking for God in a plant or a practice and start recognizing the divinity already operating within their own nervous system.
In this episode, she covers:
- The Frequency of Love: Why love isn't an emotion you give or receive, but the fundamental frequency of creation, and how forgiveness is a tool to tune yourself back into it.
- The Non-Duality Download: Corissa’s personal story of entering a portal at age 20, feeling simultaneously infinite and insignificant, and how that shattered her perception of separation.
- The Surrender Paradox: Why surrender isn't about giving up control, but about accepting your divine nature so serendipity can finally find you.
- Beyond the Hacks: Why true mysticism requires no teacher, no substance, and no special diet…only the choice to shift your state of being.
- The Doing vs. Being Trap: How to stop treating spirituality like a to-do list and start living it as an operating system.

Hey, beautiful souls. I'm so happy to join you today to talk about the three must-d's for a true mystical experience. Now, I know there's a little bit of a paradox in there because are we really doing anything or just being something in order to truly have this mystical experience? As we get through this conversation, you will come to the realization that it is all about being. But there are things that we need to do to get to that being. So without further ado, let's get to the first of these must-d's for a true mystical experience. You're listening to the Everyday Mystic, where we share advice and stories grounded in the practical and supercharged by the spiritual. I'm your host, Carissa St. Laurent, and I'm on a mission to demystify the mystical and transform your everyday life into one of greater meaning, higher purpose, and true joy. If you're ready to tap into your inner wisdom and the energy of all that is, you're in the right place, and we're so happy you're here. Let's get this party started. The first is to operate from a frequency of love. That can sound a bit trite or simple, depending on which part of the cynical scale you're on. But let's talk about love and what love truly is. From the standpoint of our spirit, our soul here in a body, love is the essence of creation. It is what created and continues to create this experience, this universe. We are, when operating from a frequency of love, in direct connection to our divine nature and therefore in direct connection with divine creation, God, as some might call it, the universe, as others may call it, whatever you want to call it, it is the energy of all that is. When we operate from that frequency of love that is unconditional, that is the essence of creation, that is abundant in nature, and nothing needs to be done in order to receive it or give it. That frequency of love, when we're operating from there, we can actually be in without having to do anything, be in that God frequency. Now, of course, we have the definition of love that we use here as humans that ties us to other people or concepts or things. You might love a spouse, you might love your job, you might love your child. That type of love is different. We have even terms for that. We could say it's, oh, it's familial love or it's platonic love. Um, those things can be close to divine love. Certainly, if you get there within yourself, with what we're talking about, with this frequency of true love. When you get there within, then you can connect to everything with that frequency: spouses, children, work colleagues, to trees, all things. But there is a separation in so many people's minds that there is a love that exists here that we have to work for, that we have to do something in order to receive it, that we have to give it in order to receive it. And when you're in the frequency of love, meaning you have tuned your heart to this frequency, you're just in it. There's nothing you have to do. You don't even need to give it, you just automatically give it off. And you then therefore automatically receive it. But the giving and the receiving is all one. It's not, oh, I have got to give it so then I can then receive it. It's not causal, it is just is. That comes back to the beingness we were talking about earlier. Everything we're going to talk about today boils down to a beingness. But the things that we can do to help us get into that state of beingness, to get into this frequency of love, may involve forgiveness. We grow up or come up into this human experience through a lot of different relationships, obviously, first starting with our parents and then with siblings and society and teachers and authority figures and our community at large and then with the world. We're in relationship with all these different types of people. We're in relationship with concepts, even with culture, with so many things. And some of those things can do us wrong. That's just part of the human experience. So part of what we can do to get into this frequency of love is to forgive. Forgive all experiences and therefore all people, things, concepts that have done us wrong. And when I say wrong, I mean that they've hurt the human heart. Not that they are wrong in your experience because they are as valid and right as the good things that have happened to you. But those things that have quote unquote wronged you, hurt you, have what may in your mind set you up for failure are all things that are valuable lessons. They are all things that set us up to understand and see the contrast of this realm. So in that sense, they're all right. When it comes to us actually forgiving those people or experiences, what we're truly doing is forgiving ourselves for holding on to any hate, negativity, anger, shame, guilt, things that keep us in a lower frequency, keep us out of that frequency of love. So we're not trying to get to this unattainable place or this place you've never been, this frequency of love, like how do I get there? Right. It's not about getting to some foreign destination you've never been. The frequency of love is your true nature. That's what we all come here with. Our life experiences tend to block, dampen, shield, or will cover up that divine nature to the point of where we are clouded or enshrouded in a lower frequency, a frequency of shame, guilt, anger. When we're in those places, we feel like that is the, and it is from a human perspective, the sort of baseline of operation, that your frequency operating from that place is a dampened experience. It's dark clouds, it's seeing the world in a shadowy way rather than the bright, light, beautiful, love-filled way and place that this actually is and that you actually are. So forgiveness isn't about the other person or the experience or the thing that it is you're forgiving. It is about coming into your truth that you are this divine being. And forgiveness is just a word for acceptance. We are accepting our divine nature. And therefore, all the things we need to forgive, all of the people we need to forgive, just fall away. It's not even important anymore. So I know I'm making it sound like it's easy to do this to forgive, but when we're not focused so much on the back and forth of, well, but they did this awful thing. How could I forgive them? And we're more focused on the energy that I'm holding on to around this person, this experience is blocking me from my true nature. Let me let go of that energy. Let me not even let go. That's not necessarily the correct word. It's just choose something different. You don't really need to worry about the negative emotions or the negative habits that have all, you know, been learned over time to cope with those experiences. Those all start to shift as you choose this new frequency. Like I said, it's not easy to choose this because we're so habituated to choosing the anger, choosing the shame, choosing the familiar, or choosing to be the victim because that's what has worked for us, what we've just been conditioned to. But now, through consciousness, through understanding this larger picture of who you really are as this divine being, we can choose love. We can choose this frequency of love. Don't even worry about the letting go of all this. Oh, it's going to be so hard to let go of the pain and the anger and the thing that they did to me. We just choose love. We continually choose love in every moment and in every situation. Now, this requires a courage that you may not yet feel you have. The courage and taking steps to actually break free from those limitations of your upbringing and your circumstances and your actual ego is where the work lies. This is where we move into a place where we're making choices for ourself, for love, and therefore toward a union with the divine. And that's truly what a mystical experience is, is that we are in union, which brings us to the second must-do for a true mystical experience. And that is to accept non-duality, oneness. I can speak of this oneness because I've actually experienced it. So I want to tell that story real quick so you understand where I'm coming from. I had, when I was a teenager, read about certain concepts, didn't even, couldn't even make sense of it. Wasn't nearly a scholar in this information. It was just I was attracted to the information and would read different books and look into these concepts, but it was all very surface-y. I was still living a very shrouded teenage life of victimhood and pain operating from a place of unconsciousness in a state of self-destruction in many ways. And I had this opening when I was 16 years old, which I'll share on another podcast, or you may have heard me talk about before, that invited me into exploring this information more deeply. And as I explored, I, you know, pick up a book here and there, I would think about a concept here and there. But mostly I was just living a regular teenage life and also on a path of self-destruction as well, due to, you know, my initial early human experiences. So I've been there, I've been in the victimhood, I've been in deep shame, anger, guilt, sadness, depression, suicidality. I've been in the darkness. But that little crack sliver of light that came in in my early teens led me to these portals. I call them that because they're all just doors, which are opportunities to go explore further into this mystery. You can choose to go through the portal or not. Sometimes we are given an experience that drops us into the portal. And that's what happened when I was 20 years old. I was dropped into a portal. I was held in this oneness, in a divine state of love that I can only describe as God's love. It's hard to put words on an experience that's so ephemeral. It was a place I entered into that felt infinite, no bounds. It felt pure, just love and light, filled with the energy of just pure possibility, pure potential, uh creation. I was in this pure state of pure creation. And in that place, I was given a message to heal my heart and find my gifts and go share them with the world. But the message wasn't the most profound thing. It was the feeling. It was this state that I was in that felt like infinity, felt like there was nothing else. I felt I was that, but then at the same time, I understood and knew how small and insignificant I was in the boundlessness of all of this. So it was feeling that I was myself, but I was all things. I was as grand as all of that, but as insignificant as a speck of sand. It was the most beautiful place I'd ever been, the most beautiful experience that I had ever had. And this isn't something that I, you know, took a drug to get to or that I asked for. It just happened to me. And in experiencing that oneness, I realized the truth of who I am. I realized the truth of who we all are. I realized what this realm is. I saw into the expansiveness, as I mentioned, the boundlessness of the realm, and then also the limitations of this earthly realm. And all of this knowledge, information, insight, uh, knowing just downloaded in a flash. I guess you could explain it in a way of there was no time because it didn't take time for any of this to just come in. It just was there. So, in that experience, I know from a personal gnosis, from a actual experience, what oneness is, what it feels like, what it is, what what and how we're all part of this, that we all are it. So we're both parts as we individuate as a human, we're a part of it, but as a soul, we're we're we're it. We are it. We all are all of it. So that's where the confusion may lie is like, well, I'm an individual being here. How can I be the oneness? How can I be this divine being, but also be this human? That's where we get to play. You know, this earthly realm is this playground where we actually get to experience all of that. We get to experience the oneness within the limitations of our human existence and play with the contrasts and the lessons that we're here to imbue, both on ourselves and the collective, because we're all connected in this way. We are literally all in this together. So that's where the the lesson lies is in acceptance of this non-duality, of this oneness. We are in a knowing, in the truth of that no one, nothing is working against us. We are not good and they are bad, or they are not good and we are bad. We are not in opposition to anything. Everything is one. And that means we're one with God, one with the universe or the energy of all that is. And with everything here that's been created in this realm, we are one. And then this isn't about like, oh, kumbaya, we're all one. Yes, it can lead to that peace. But why I'm sharing it is because it is a truth that I have come to both experience and know that when we accept it, we then drop into our true nature and then therefore can operate in this union, which is that mystical experience, this union with God. This thing that doesn't just drop in out of nowhere like it did for me, or that you get from a psychedelic experience or through breathwork exercises. It can just literally be accessed at any moment, at any time, anywhere you choose. And then we can also live from that place, that mystical understanding place, and we move through the world differently. We move through the world and experience the world through a whole new set of eyes, a whole new experience of our human here operating in this realm, but connected multidimensionally, connected to all that is. And that's really the wrong word. When you say connected to the oneness, it means like we're separate, but we're in that knowing that we are the oneness. When we get there, again, not easy necessarily, but it is so easy and simple on the other hand. It's as simple as deciding that this is so. So there's so many things that people can do to get there. I've had incredible experience of oneness under the influence of psychedelics. Absolutely. Through breathwork experiences, yes, just in deep, deep meditation. So there are things you can do to have that experience, but a true mystical experience is that it's the state of being that you operate from or that you can just access at any moment, at any time, without any external substance influence thing you have to do. So that's again the other interesting thing about these must-dos is that when you do them, what you're really doing is just accepting that that's the way things are. What you have to do is the acceptance, or you do the things like the forgiveness to move out of that energy and into that energy of love, or you maybe do a psychedelic experience, or you do some breathwork classes, you do those things to experience it, to know it's real, to have had the experience to go, okay. This is accessible. This is what this is. This is what is going on here. And now I can spend my life making choices that are going to align with that truth so that I am dropped into that portal of oneness whenever I want or at all times. So many people that come onto my podcast talk about those different experiences, the different work that they facilitate. And all of it's awesome. All of it is valid in ways of connecting to a mystical type experience, but a true mystical experience requires none of it. It requires no teacher, requires no substance, requires nothing that you do in your body, no special diet. It is truly about what brings me to the third must-do for a true mystical experience. It is about surrender. When we surrender to this knowing, this understanding, this truth that we are divine beings, that we are God incarnate, that we are these souls in a body. There's so many different ways we can describe it, but that we are not just this human experience, that we're not just this human being. When we accept this, this is the surrender that we do in order to have that true union. We then enter into serendipity and flow and synchronicity and the things that we might call coincidence, right? If you don't believe in synchronicity, but truly we enter into these magical spaces where we are operating from a place that is like the operator that sits above 30,000-foot view or higher of your human experience and the human experience of all, and the earthly experience of all, and see the connections, see the uh the places that are blocking and that are open. And we just see, understand, and know more clearly where to take our own life through that surrender, which is more about acceptance than it is about letting go of anything. Because letting go feels like, ah, there's these things that are so important and that, and and I gotta let go of them. It isn't about a letting go in that sense. It's about an acceptance that you are not that version of yourself anymore, that you don't have to cling to that version of yourself anymore. It's an acceptance of yourself as this divine being. It's an acceptance that we have this co-creative ability, and that's what we're doing here. It's an acceptance of these frequencies that put us into states of joy and bliss and peace. An acceptance of all of that rather than oh, a letting go of the negative forces. When we surrender, we get to be in our divine nature, which is your true nature, and which is your birthright. And it is the place that I believe we all can get to at any moment. You don't have to go live in a cave, have studied mystical texts, do anything specific and have spent any specific amount of time doing those things. We can simply choose this at any moment. Sometimes people are driven in their darkest moments to choose this, and that's where maybe a feeling of true surrender can happen because they finally aren't fighting it anymore. They're finally not holding back the damn. They just get to accept that the waters are flowing and are meant to flow, and those waters carry truth and understanding and love and so much experience. And when we're not afraid to fully experience life, we're gonna let those waters flow. We can surrender then to what a true mystical experience feels like and what it is. It isn't just any more, oh, a feeling you get because you did X, Y, and Z. It's a state of beingness that you enter into because you have done the work, or because you have taken these steps that we talked about today. So, again, a paradox of where these things can sound simple and yet they might be really difficult to do, or they are as easy as just literally making a decision, literally making that choice to surrender, to be in the frequency of love, to accept this non-duality. Those choices and whatever blocks you have in making those choices is the work. You know, that's the work that could take a lifetime or lifetimes. It can take, can seem hard because of that. But entering into a place of where you just make that choice can happen for anyone at any moment. You could make that choice right now. And it's your choice whether or not you do, and whether or not you do the work to get out of your own way to do that. This is where mentors and teachers and guides certainly can help because it can seem scary. It's hard sometimes to muster the courage to do that. It can seem and be really difficult to walk this path alone. I mean, we're all walking our own path. And whether or not you have a guide for you, you're it's still your own path so clearly. But that guide or that mentor can at least light the way, hold up a sign and say, you know, hey, come check it out down here. Have you looked into this? Can be a support in this, and we and we all can be this for each other. I'm a mentor in the sense of where I offer this because I've been through the experiences that I've touched on today. But we can all, and we all are, teachers to one another, all of us, even if you're not setting out intentionally to be one. Uh, but because I've set out intentionally to be one and and have had these certain experiences that I can share with others, there's uh, you know, the direct sort of action taking that you can do when we work together. So that's something if you want to check it out, go to theeverydaymystic.org slash mentorship. I offer this mentorship by donation. I'm happy to work with those who I know are here to do the work. I mean, we're all here to do the work, but some of us are more ready than others. Some of us are truly ready to take the steps that maybe I might be best helpful in guiding, and we can figure that out through a call and just have a chat to see whether or not that would be the right fit. So go and check that out at theeverdaymystic.org and take these must-do's as action items, but that in knowing once we do do these things to get into these states, then it's all about beingness. It's all about being in a state where that mystical experience is our daily normal experience rather than it's the thing that happened once when we went off to a retreat. It can become that everyday mystic experience in life. I love you, and I'll look forward to our connection next time.
